KAIST South Korean Scholarships 2023: BS, MS, PHD Scholarship in South Korea

The KAIST South Korean Scholarships 2023 is now accepting online applications from international students for the academic year 2023. The GKS program is designed to provide higher education opportunities in South Korea for international students with the aim of promoting international exchange in education and learning as well as mutual friendship amongst the participating countries.

There are two tracks to apply for the scholarship program, the Embassy track, and the University track:

    • Applicants must apply either to a Korean Embassy where they hold citizenship or to one of the enlisted universities
    • Before you apply, please read the attached guideline carefully to find the right track for you.

Global Korea Scholarship is designed to provide international students with opportunities to study at
higher educational institutions in Korea for graduate-level degrees, which will enhance international
education exchange and deepen mutual friendship between Korea and participating countries.

2023 KAIST Scholarships Eligibility

All applicants and their parents must not hold Korean citizenship.

    • Korean citizens and dual citizenship holders (one who has Korean citizenship and citizenship of
      another country) are NOT eligible to apply.
    • Applicants and their parents who had previously held Korean citizenship must submit the document
      that proves their renunciation of Korean citizenship.
    • Must be under 40 years of age as of September 1, 2023 (born after September 1, 1982)
    • Academic professors who are under 45 years of age as of September 1, 2023 (born after September 1, 1976)
    • Applicants must hold or must be expected to hold a Bachelor‟s, Master‟s, or Doctoral degree by
      August 31st, 2023.
    • All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full
      duration of degree or research programs.

Who is Eligible to Apply for the Undergraduate Program as an International Student?

International candidates for the EARLY track must meet all of the following requirements:

1) Spring 2023 (EARLY only)

>> Applicants who have graduated or will graduate from high school by August 28th, 2023.

2) Fall 2023 (EARLY / REGULAR / LATE)

>> Applicants who have graduated or will graduate from high school by August 31st, 2023.

3) He or she is not a citizen of Korea.

* Korean citizens who hold dual citizenship are not eligible to apply as foreign students.

※ Note: International applicants whose parents were born in Korea MUST read the instructions below.

International applicants of Korean origin MUST additionally satisfy one of the following two requirements:

  1. Neither of the applicant’s parents is a Korean citizen or;
  2. The applicant must have received his/her entire elementary, junior high, and high school education outside of Korea at a comparable and equivalent level to those provided in Korea. But in this case, international schools located in Korea are not acknowledged as foreign schools.
    the applicant of Korean origin who completed their entire education(elementary, junior high, and high school) outside of Korea should submit the Certificate of the Facts Concerning the Entry & Exit issued by the Korean Immigration Office.
    The certificate should have recently been issued.

※ International students of Korean origin who do not meet one of the eligibility above CAN NOT apply for International Admissions.

All application documents must be written either in Korean or English.

    • Documents written in languages other than Korean or English must accompany a complete Korean
      or English translation, authenticated by the issuing institution, or notarized by a notary public.
    • All application documents must be presented in their original forms. If an applicant has to submit
      photocopied documents, the applicant MUST have the photocopies notarized, apostilled, or receive
      consular confirmation and submit those certified documents.
