Founded in 2015, the University of Gibraltar is the only university of Gibraltar. The university provides cutting edge education that is aligned with British standards. The classes are small and the courses are taught in a way that makes the students get ready for the challenges ahead.

Cost of Living and VISA Process to study in Gibraltar

The cost of living for a student in Gibraltar is around £600 or $800. The visa requirements are almost the same as in the UK. The students who are on a student visa can work for 10 hours a week during the semester and full time in the semester breaks. The cost of living in Gibraltar is way lower than it is in the UK. The classes are taught in English so the students have to prove their language proficiency via standardized tests. The University of Gibraltar also gives international students the option of attending their English language classes to assist them in achieving the required level of English language proficiency. University of Gibraltar Scholarships:

  • Europa Scholarships:

The Europa scholarships of the University of Gibraltar are pretty generous and highly competitive. The value of the scholarship is £6,000 (at most) and is given to those who have excellent previous academic records. All the international students are encouraged to apply to this. The students can also avail this scholarship in the subsequent years of their study as these are renewable provided that the student maintains a satisfactory level of academic progress.

  • Europa Bursaries:

Europa Bursaries, unlike Europa scholarships, are awarded on the basis of involvement in extracurricular activities such as volunteer work, demonstration of leadership skills, or engagement in community work. The worth of the award is a maximum of £3,000. It is open for the students of all nationalities and is renewable on the basis of awardees’ progress in their respective degree programs.

  • Parasol Scholarships:

Funded by the Parasol Foundation Trust, the Parasol Scholarship is only open for Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) students. The scholarship covers the educational expenses of the grantees in full (for three years of study). In some cases, that scholarship also partly covers the accommodation costs of the scholarship holders. The accommodation subsidy is given to a maximum of £5,000 per annum and is given on a case to case basis. 

Government of Gibraltar Scholarship:

Her Majesty’s Scholarship by the Government of Gibraltar is open for British nationals and EU citizens. The eligibility criteria require that students must have resided in Gibraltar for 5 years before applying for the scholarship. The scholarship is divided into two categories; Mandatory and Discretionary. The mandatory awards can fully fund the awardee’s education. Other Scholarships in Gibraltar:

  • Marie Sklodowska Curie Scholarships:

Available for the Fellowship programs of the University of Gibraltar, the Marie Sklodowska Curie funding is offered to researchers. The fellowship offers an annual salary of €81,800, covers training costs, and provides a family and travel allowance to the scholarship holders. (The family and travel allowance is only given to those who are eligible for it). The applicants must be Ph.D. holders or must have extensive research experience in their respective fields.

  • Commonwealth Scholarships:

The commonwealth scholarship is for those students who belong to a listed developing country or to a country that is a member of the British Commonwealth. The scholarship is for a research-based program taught at the University of Gibraltar. The benefits include; tuition fee waiver, a round trip plane ticket per year to visit the country of residence, and a monthly stipend that will be given for the full three years of study.
