International Essay Contest for Young People 2024
Are you a young thinker looking to make a difference in the world? If so, this programme invite you to participate in their exciting annual essay contest. This opportunity is not only a chance to express your creativity and ideas, but also to contribute towards fostering a culture of peace and sustainable development.
This contest is part of UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development and aims to bring fresh perspectives from the youth on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Theme
“My Experience of Overcoming Conflict“: You have to tell about a personal conflict you’ve overcome. What did you learn from this experience? How do you plan to use these insights in your life and for the betterment of society?
Eligibility
Open to anyone up to 25 years old as of June 15, 2024, in two categories:
- Children (ages up to 14)
- Youth (ages 15 – 25)
Submission Requirements
- Essays should be 700 words or less in English or French, or 1600 characters or less in Japanese.
- Must be typed and include your name, email address, and essay title at the top of the first page.
- Format can be in MS Word or PDF.
- Only one entry per person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.
- Ensure your work is original and unpublished. Entries with plagiarized content or created by AI will be rejected.
- How to Submit: Entries must be submitted online through the contest’s registration page (https://www.goipeace.or.jp/en/work/essay-contest/). Avoid the last-minute rush and try to submit your essay early!
Prizes
- Amazing prizes await, including certificates, cash awards, and gifts, with special events for top winners.
- First Prize: 100,000 Yen (approx. US$660)
- Further prizes down to 25 honorable mentions.
Deadline and Awards Announcement
- Submission Deadline: June 15, 2024, by 23:59 your local time.
- Results Announcement: October 31, 2024, with certificates and gifts dispatched by January 2025.
