#1 Scholarships offered by the Romanian State to foreign citizens through the MFA

Romanian State offers many scholarships for foreign students who are not residents of EU-member countries to study in Romania. These scholarships are offered through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The scholarships are granted to undergraduate and post-graduate students in 3 study cycles.

For the first cycle, high-school graduates are provided a scholarship for undergraduate studies in Romania for 3-6 years. In the second cycle, post-graduate students are provided scholarships for master’s degrees in Romania for 1.5 to 2 years, which culminates in the dissertation.

For the third cycle, university and post-graduate students are given scholarships for doctorate programs in the country for 3-4 years. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation subject to availability, and financial support in the form of a monthly amount. #2 Excellence Scholarships Offered by Romanian State to International Students

The Romanian state provides scholarships for international students showing outstanding academic and scientific results. To be eligible, students must have completed at least one year of studies at an accredited university in Romania with a minimum average of 8.00.

This does not include the preparatory year. Students from EU third countries registered in foreign-currency fee-paying places can be granted this scholarship. Awardees are given grants through The Ministry of Education, Research, Youth, and Sports. So, the students have to be self-financed at the beginning of their studies. #3 Scholarships to Foreign Citizens by Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment

Every year, the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Business Environment, Romania provides 40 scholarships to foreign citizens. Students who can promote economic relations between Romania and their home country are chosen for the scholarship.

These scholarships are provided for Romanian-taught programs at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. levels. Priority is given to applicants with certain fields of interest including business, technical science, agricultural science, and oil and gas. The scholarship provides tuition fee waivers, free accommodation, and a monthly allowance. A one-year preparatory course for studying the Romanian language is also covered under the program. That’s because studies covered under these scholarships are in the Romanian language.

#4 CEEPUS Scholarships Program

This is basically a program that aims to encourage student mobility and provides grants for students enrolled. CEEPUS or The Central European Exchange Program for University Studies provides grants for students’ mobility between the member countries. It provides many grants for students who arrive for studies in Romanian universities.

Beneficiaries of CEEPUS scholarships get monthly grants, free accommodation, and medical service costs. #5 Fullbright Scholarships for U.S. Citizens

Different scholarship programs are available for U.S. citizens wishing to study in Romania. These are intended to create a better understanding between US citizens and people of other countries and encourage the exchange of knowledge and skills. The Fullbright Student Award is provided for students of all degree levels for a period of 9 months.

The Fullbright Scholars program is meant for teaching and research projects and is granted for 4-12 months. Both programs provide a monthly stipend, travel and relocation expense, health insurance, and another education cost. #6 University of Bucharest Scholarships

It is one of the oldest and most renowned universities in Romania. It grants many different types of scholarships for undergraduate as well as postgraduate programs. These include Scientific Performance Scholarships, Merit Scholarships, and special scholarships.

Some of these scholarships are funded by the university itself while others are funded by various agencies. All students of the university can apply for these scholarships based on the eligibility criteria. #7 Transilvania Academica Scholarships

Provided by Transilvania University of Brașov (UNITBV), these scholarships are meant for non-EU and non-EEA students. Students accepted at the university for full-time bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees can apply for the scholarship. This scholarship is provided for the full duration of the study program but students must pass each academic year to get a scholarship next year.
