Today’s academic news is the application window opening for Taiwanese Government Scholarships for the batch of 2023 in 2023 for all students of all subjects. Taiwan Scholarship admissions do not require IELTS or application fees; so it is very simple and inexpensive to apply for Taiwanese Scholarships.

With China offering world-class higher education and Chinese Scholarships, one may not think of studying in Taiwan, a country, which is also a part of the People’s Republic of China. This country’s official language is also Mandarin, but at higher education levels, a number of programs are offered in the English language to cater to the needs of international applicants.

Education in Taiwan is provided in a large variety of subject areas and there are generous scholarships available as well. The tuition fee is relatively low despite the fact that the education system is parallel to the United States of America.

English Language Requirement for Scholarship Admissions in Taiwan

At the higher educational institutes of Taiwan, the degree programs are available in Mandarin and English. The students applying for English language programs have to prove their English language proficiency via IELTS, PTE, DET, and TOEFL iBT.

Applicants may also provide English Language Proficiency test as an alternative to IELTS. However, this requirement can be waived if they are native speakers of the English language or if the language of instruction in their last degree was English. 

Taiwan Student Visa and Work Permit:

Fortunately, you can work while being on a study visa in Taiwan. But, for that, you will have to apply for a Taiwanese work permit. A work permit is granted after getting a permission letter from the student’s school stating that the student needs the job to meet his/her day-to-day expenses or that the job will assist the student in their course work.

Cost of Living in Taiwan:

The cost of living in Taiwan is pretty high. A single person can expect to spend more than 52,000 NTD on living expenses. A family of four can survive on more than 110,000 NTD. Still, as compared to the US this cost of living is low.

Taiwan Scholarships in Top Taiwanese Universities:

There are a number of higher educational institutions in Taiwan, a number of which are also in the QS World University Ranking. The top five most competent universities are National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and National Cheng Kung University. So, let’s discuss their scholarships now:

#1 Government of Taiwan Scholarships:

The ministry of education in Taiwan has offered a scholarship program for international students to study in Taiwan. This Taiwanese scholarship is provided at the bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. levels. 

The benefits of this scholarship are divided into two parts, the first part offers the tuition fee and miscellaneous expenses subsidy. The other part gives a stipend on a monthly basis. The tuition fee subsidy is provided for up to 40,000 NTD. If the student’s tuition expenses are more than that, he/she will have to pay that extra amount from his/her own pocket.

The stipend for undergraduate students is set at 15,000 NTD. For graduate students, it is 20,000 NTD. The stipend is supposed to assist the students in paying their living expenses.

#2 Aletheia University Scholarships:

Aletheia University is offering scholarships to international students at bachelor’s and master’s levels. Outstanding bachelor’s and master’s students from abroad will get a scholarship of up to 100,000 NTD.

#3 Asia University Scholarships:

Asia University’s Scholarships are divided into many categories, which will be discussed shortly. The students can apply for only some scholarships and the type of scholarship they will be awarded is at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

For Ph.D. and Master’s Students:

The first type of scholarship offers a full waiver of tuition fees, a 50% waiver on dormitory charges, and a once-a-month stipend of 6000 NTD. The second type of scholarship gives a full tuition and other fees waiver but no waiver on dormitory charges or a stipend is offered. The third type offers a 50% waiver on tuition and miscellaneous fees. 

For Bachelor’s Students:

The first type gives a 100% waiver on tuition and miscellaneous charges. The second type gives a 50% waiver and the third type gives a 50% waiver on only tuition fees. The stipend receiving students have to participate in some activities and on-campus chores for at least 30 hours a semester.

#4 Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology (CTUST) Scholarships:

CTUST offers scholarships to local and international students of bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs. These scholarships are offered for all fields of study and the amount of scholarship is 5,000 NTD a month. 

In addition to that, CTUST offers admission or entrance awards to outstanding freshmen. These awards are in the aggregate amount of 1 million NTD and the total number of awards is 20.

#5 Chang Gung University Scholarships:

Chang Gung University Scholarships are available for many degrees and non-degree programs for local and international students each year.

#6 Graduate International Students Scholarships:

The master’s and doctoral students from outside of Taiwan are offered various kinds of scholarships at Chang Gung University. The awarding criteria consider the applicants’ English Language Proficiency, the applicant’s overall profile, and academic performance.

The award gives a certain percentage of the waiver on tuition fees and miscellaneous expenses (that percentage depends upon how talented a student is) as well as an on-campus accommodation.

#7 CGU Academic Scholarships:

For undergraduate bachelor’s students from all nationalities, CGU offers a scholarship offer that gives a monthly stipend in three categories. Students who are studying at CGU for more than one semester can apply. Depending upon their record at CGU, the first category winners will get a monthly stipend of 10,000 NTD, the second category winners 7,000 NTD, and the third category winners 4,000 NTD.

#8 Distinctive Performance Scholarships:

This award is given to the current students at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. The award is given to those students who have outperformed other students in a semester. At the undergraduate level, the top score holder gets an award of 3,000 NTD, and the second and third position holders get an award of 2,000 NTD and 1,000 NTD respectively.

At the master’s level, there is only one award of 3,000 NTD given to the top position holder in all the fields of study.
