NASA Space Internships in 2023 – Applications Portal Open

The American Space Exploration Agency NASA is offering Internships in 2023 to final-year students. NASA Internships are offered in most of the state-of-the-art departments for students and fresh grads to gain professional experience.

There are two kinds of internships available at NASA. The first one only takes in US citizens. The second type of internship is offered to students from selected countries by NASA. These internships are highly competitive and are being offered to take up at one of many NASA field centers. These interns will be able to work under the mentorship of NASA researchers. These internships are offered three times a year spring, summer and autumn.

NASA Internship Salary Package:

There is a monthly stipend available to most of the interns working at NASA. The amount of the stipend depends upon the length of the internship and the qualification of the intern. With that, the interns may be offered nice accommodation and other benefits during their NASA Missions.

Interns who are relocating from another city, state, or country will have to manage their own housing and its expenses, though some assistance in the form of providing a list of housing options will be provided by NASA.

NASA Internship Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0. They should be enrolled in a full-time program pursuing an under or postgraduate degree and should not be less than 16 years of age at the time of application. 

Interns must be US citizens for the local internships. The international internships are available to students from Australia, Canada, Brazil, Europe, Jordan, Bangladesh, Israel, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Tobago, Trinidad, Portugal, India, South Korea, Pakistan New Zealand, Norway, and Mexico.

Experience Requirements for NASA Internship:

There is no requirement for prior experience for NASA internships per their defined criteria. Although it is a plus point and can be valuable for some of the projects if the applicants have internship experience before in other organizations.

NASA Internships’ Calendar:

The Fall Internships: These internships start by the end of August and go on until the mid of December. The total duration of these internships is 16 weeks.

The Spring Internships: These internships start in the mid of January and go on until early March. Like fall internships, these are also spread over 16 weeks.

The Summer Internships: These internships start at the end of May and end in August. These are usually for 10 weeks.

You have to select which internship you are applying to and you will be redirected to the appropriate application portal. You have to fill in and upload documents for the following sections:

NASA Space Missions and Projects Available:

After filling out the application form, the applicants will be able to view the projects available for interns at each of the NASA field centers. Applicants can apply to projects that suit their geographical location and meet their skill sets.

Applicants are not required to specifically apply to a project. They can be awarded one based on their overall candidate profile as well.
