Scholarships for Indonesian Students Without IELTS/TOEFL in 2023

The fully-funded scholarships for Indonesians in 2023 for the batch of 2023 are currently open for admission applications review. Most Indonesian students prefer higher education from foreign countries as the quality of education is much better and developed.

#1 Birkbeck, University of London

Birkbeck is a fragment of the University of London. It is a public research university. The university is famous for its exceptional law programs. Birkbeck does not require an IELTS exam which makes it very desirable for international students.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicants can take pre-sessional English language courses to skip IELTS. Master’s level applicants who have studied at an English medium university for over a year are not required to prove English Language proficiency.

#2 The University of Surrey, England.

The University of Surrey is located in Surrey, with more than 15,000 students enrolled in over 100 programs. The university is one of England’s best universities and is well-known for its research-intensive programs. UoS has expelled the requirement of IELT or TOEFL exams, giving other alternates for students.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicants who have done A or AS-level in English language or Literature are exempted from taking IELTS. Students can also submit the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English as an easy alternate.

#3 Federation University Australia.

The federation university has multiple campuses in Australia. The university is known due to its exceptional teaching quality. The university ranks at 31st position in Australia. The university offers various programs at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. FUA also offers options other than IELTS for international students for their ease.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Graduated students who have an undergrad degree from FU recognized university or applicants in the Foundation program in any Australian institute are not required to give IELTS.

#4 KAIST Korea Scholarships

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, located in Daejeon, South Korea, is South Korea’s first public research university. The university offers 115 programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Most of the courses in the university are taught in the English language. Students can now prove their English Proficiency in multiple ways other than just IELTS or TOEFL.

Language Proficiency Requirement: The university now accepts TEPS and TOEIC exam scores.

KAIST conducts several scholarship programs for domestic and international students. The KAIST university offers up to 300 scholarships for international students.

The KAIST scholarship provides numerous benefits for the selected students.

IELTS exemption condition for KAIST: applicants are exempted from taking IELTS or TOEFL exams on the condition that they submit an English Language Certificate from their previous university or high school. 

#5 Hong Kong Baptist University HKBU.

HKBU is one of Hong Kong’s leading universities that offer tertiary education with more than 11,000 students. The university offers nearly all courses in the English language. The best thing about HKBU is that it has now exempted students from taking IELTS or TOEFL. 

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

For undergraduate students, post-secondary education in an HKBU recognized high school is deemed adequate. Applicants with E or C grades in Chinese at the O/A/AS level are accepted by HKDSE.

Scholarships and value: HKBU has scholarships for international students in all disciples of choice of the winners.

#6 National Chiao Tung University NCTU, Taiwan.

NCTU is one of Taiwan’s best and oldest universities. NCTU is home to a large, vast diversity of international student bodies. The university offers programs in Chinese and English language.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Most English-taught programs do not require any proof of English Proficiency. Students can take the CBT tests as an alternate as well.

Scholarship and value.

National Chiao Tung University offers scholarships annually to international students to provide aid financially or to award high achieving, talented students. The grants are offered by the university and Ministry of Education of Taiwan to promote internationalization.

Degree level: Undergraduate and Masters.

Taiwan Scholarship value.

The scholarship is fully funded and provides an additional monthly allowance to students, depending on the student’s degree level.

Language requirement: 

The university offers courses in English as well as Chinese. Students can present English proficiency letters from their previous education institute.

#7 Nanjing University, China.

Nanjing University or “Nanda” is China’s leading university which plays a major role in the development of Chinese society. With that, there are thousands of Chinese Scholarships available in different other Chinese Universities. NU now offers the benefit of skipping IELTS or TOEFL exams for international students.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicants who have previously studied in the English Language medium institute do not need to take IELTS or TOEFL.

Chinese Government Scholarships CSC are sponsored scholarships by the Chinese Government. Nanjing University holds spots for international students under the CSC partnership.

#8 Hokkaido University, Japan.

Hokkaido or Hokudai University is located in Sapporo and is one of the top five best universities of Japan. It ranks in the top 100 most innovative and progressive universities in the world. Students are now eligible to apply without giving IELTS or TOEFL exam.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Four years of post-secondary education at an institute with the English Language as the primary medium of instruction or assessment is deemed adequate proof of English Proficiency.

MEXT Japan Scholarship and value:

Hokkaido University falls the universities in partnership with the MEXT Japanese Government scholarships for international students. This government-sponsored program is open for international students of any nationality and aims to support better international relations.

Degree level: Undergraduate, Research studies, Master’s, and Ph.D.

  • Fully funded. 
  • Research regional allowance.
  • Round trip traveling expense coverage.
  • Monthly stipend of ¥146,000 to ¥148,000.

Medium of Instruction:

Hokkaido University offers courses entirely in the English language. International students can show an English proficiency certificate from their past institute to be eligible to apply.

#9 The Queen Mary University of London.

Queen Mary University is one of the Russell Group universities and is a highly prestigious university offering outstanding tertiary education. QMU now gives its international students the opportunity to skip the IELTS exam and still obtain a scholarship.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Students can take IELTS or PTE. Additionally, QMU also accepts a certain score in a pre-sessional English Language course is accepted by the university as proof of English Proficiency.

#10 Humber University, Canada.

Humber University comprises more than 84,000 students and is known to be the most college for international students. Humber university now gives its students options other than IELTS to prove their English Language proficiency.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Previous education (post-secondary or undergraduate) in an institute with English as the main mode of instruction or assessment is deemed adequate proof of English Proficiency. Applicants can also apply to the Humber college English proficiency program.

#11 University of St Andrews, Scotland.

The University of St. Andrews is regarded to be a public research university and is the third oldest university in all English-speaking universities. The university is well-known worldwide as the university topped Oxford University. 

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicants can apply in the pre-sessional English language courses for 4 weeks is enough English proficiency proof. No IELTS or TOEFL exams are required.

Applicants can take the English Language Proficiency Mock test taken by the university. Additionally, students can submit GET TU scores as well.

Applicants can provide proof of their previous education secondary and post-secondary being taught in the English Language as the medium of instruction and assessment. Graduates can skip IELT if their undergraduate degree was obtained in an institute with the English Language as the primary language.

#14 Bilkent University, Turkey.

Located in Ankara, Bilkent University is one of Turkey’s leading universities providing undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees. Applicants are not obligated to submit IELT scores anymore, the BU offers other alternates to prove English proficiency.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Students can take Bilkent PAE instead of IELT or TOEFL.

Scholarships and values: Bilkent University offers abundant scholarships to its students to motivate them and encourage high achievers. Students may get a 20% or 30% tuition waiver depending on their academic performance.

  • Bilkent University President Graduate Fellowship.

Degree level: Postgraduate and Ph.D.
Scholarship value: Fully funded scholarships with a monthly stipend varying from US$450 to US$600.

Language requirement:

The university provides all courses in the English language to better accommodate international students. Applicants can attach an English proficiency certificate from their high school as IELTS equivalence.

#15 Qatar University.

Qatar University is the only public research university in the country. Fortunately, the university now offers other alternates to prove their English language Proficiency, making QU very attractive for Indonesian students.

Language Proficiency Requirement. 

Qatar University offers English Language programs to polish the fluency of foreign students so they can excel in the university. Applicants can skip IELT if they apply in QUELP.

Government Scholarships for Indonesian Students:

We have enlisted some fully funded government-sponsored scholarships for students who may have difficulty affording international higher education on their own. These government scholarships offer generous benefits to cover all needs of a student studying abroad.

#1 Government of Sweden Scholarships.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds the Sweden Scholarships to sponsor up to 300 international students to study at the Master’s level in Swedish universities. On top of that, the scholarship does not require the applicants to take IELTS either.

Duration: 2 years.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicants with high school education in English medium of instruction or applicants with English Language or Literature in their O/A/AS level are not required to take IELTS.

#2 Government of Ireland scholarships.

Irish Government Scholarships are world-famous due to the high quality of education of Irish universities. The scholarships are covered by the Irish Education Ministry. Sixty scholarships are given every year to applicants of any nationality. Another pro of this scholarship opportunity is that it does not require students to take IELTS or TOEFL.

Degree level: Undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Previous education of at least 2 years must be in an institute with the English Language as the main medium of instruction and assessment. Applicant needs to prove this by submitting a certificate.

#3 Netherlands Government Scholarships. 

The Dutch Ministry has opened applications for the Orange Knowledge Program OKP. The aim of the program is to strengthen foreign affairs and provide a high quality of education to international students. OKP has opened admissions for Round 2 of OKP scholarships. The program aims to enhance the development of the country and contribute to the improvement of the global village. A huge benefit of this scholarship is the exemption of IELTS.

Degree level: Master’s level

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicant’s undergraduate degree must be in an English Medium institute recognized by the Netherlands Ministry of Education. Additionally, an applicant can also submit a letter of his/her previous institute vouching for the applicant’s English language proficiency.

The scholarship for Indonesians covers:

  • Complete tuition fees.
  • Accommodation.
  • Additional expenses (tax, registration fees, etc.)

#4 Government of Austria Scholarship.

The Austrian Government is now offering up to 150 scholarship opportunities to international students of all nationalities. The scholarships are funded by the Austria Development Corporation. Applicants of any academic field are eligible to apply for the Government of Austria Scholarships. Additionally, this scholarship opportunity gives the applicants the benefit of skipping the IELTS or TOEFL exam.

Degree level: Undergraduate, Masters, Ph.D., Short courses i.e Diplomas.

Language Proficiency Requirement: 

Applicants must have education (post-secondary, undergraduate, or a diploma) from an English medium institute. A Cambridge English Proficiency certificate can also be submitted.

Scholarship coverage: 

Fully or partially funded scholarships. Monthly stipends may be given depending on the applicant’s financial condition.

Note: Although applicants of all nationalities can apply, priority is given to students from developing countries or students of ADC’s prioritized countries.
