Apply for the fully-funded Slovakia Scholarships 2023-2024 academic year now in various Slovakia Public Universities. Slovakia, though not very famous among international students, still has some hidden nuances that one should look into.

It is a country with a highly regarded higher educational system. The universities here do not charge tuition fees from locals and students from the European Union. The capital, Bratislava hosts a number of good universities. These universities have excellent extra-curricular activities as well and the student life is considered to be pretty ‘cool’.

Let’s learn some more about the Slovakian higher educational system and the scholarships available there.

Language of Instruction and IELTS Requirement in Slovakian Universities:

The language of instruction in Slovakia is primarily Slovak and English. Some other minority languages of instruction are Hungarian, Ukrainian, and German. International, as well as local students taking up courses in English, have to prove their language proficiency via IELTS, TOEFL, etc. if their first language is not English.

Cost of Living for a Student in Slovakia:

Living in Slovakia is considered to be cheap among ex-pats and international students. One can live off easily with around 1,100 EUR a month. Paying rent in the capital, Bratislava can be very expensive though. Eating out and the internet are cheap while the prices of utilities are high.

Working on Student VISA in Slovakia:

Slovakia, like many other European countries, is very flexible in allowing international students to work. Students can work for a maximum of 20 hours a week. Students are also welcomed to apply for jobs in Slovakia. If they get one, they can stay in Slovakia without applying for a special work visa.

Top higher educational institutions of Slovakia:

Of all the universities in Slovakia, 32 have been listed in different types of university rankings. Still, some institutions are better than others and have high credibility in the professional world. These are Comenius University in Bratislava, Pavol Jozef Safárik University in Kosice, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, and The Technical University of Kosice (TUKE).

2023 Scholarships in Slovakia:

Most of the universities in Slovakia are state-owned. There is no tuition fee for Slovakians and students from the EU. International students from outside of the EU have to pay from 2,500 USD to 6,500 USD a year.

There are no university-sponsored scholarships in Slovakia, but, the government of Slovakia has announced a pretty generous scholarship program that is exclusively for international students.

Slovak Government Scholarship 2023-2024:

The Slovakian National Scholarship Program by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic is for international students, professors, researchers, and artists. The recipients will be able to study and research in one of the Slovak universities and research centers. The minimum duration of the stay will be a month and the maximum duration will be 10 months (or two semesters). This scholarship is like an exchange program for international students and a research visit for international researchers.

The Slovakia scholarship amount is meant to cover the living expenses of the recipients. The amount of the scholarship for each level of study or research is given below:

    • A university student below Ph.D. level will get 350 EUR a month
    • A Ph.D. student will get 580 EUR a month.
    • A university teacher, researcher, or artist who doesn’t hold a Ph.D. degree (or the equivalent of it) and has less than four years of experience in his/her field will get 580 EUR per month.
    • A university teacher, researcher, or artist with a Ph.D. degree or the equivalent of it and who has less than 10 years of experience in his/her field will get 850 EUR per month.
    • A university teacher, researcher, or artist with a Ph.D. degree or the equivalent of it and who has more than 10 years of experience in his/her field will get 1,000 EUR per month.

The recipients will continue to receive the aforementioned amount for the whole course of their studies. The students who have once received the scholarship of NSP can apply for it only after three or more years.
