Nelson Mandela Scholarship Funding Coverage Plan:

The Mandela Rhodes Fund provides financial support to international students who wish to study in South Africa with funding provided by the MRF. The foundation supports its Mandela Rhodes scholars twice a year with a financial grant and covers all your living expenses for the duration of your degree, including

  1. Tuition fees (subject to a maximum fee limit per year)
  2. Accommodation and food.
  3. Medical aid for students.
  4. Allowance to cover your living costs.
  5. The foundation will assist you with travel arrangements between home and the host institution.
  6. Allowance for study materials and research.
  7. The foundation will cover registration fees & provide a generous allowance to cover basic needs.
  8. Scholarship recipients receive year of funding for an Honours degree and two years of funding for a Master’s degree.

Please note that the Nelson Mandela Rhodes Foundation will not assist you with university application or visa fees, or the accreditation of existing degrees through the South African Qualifications Agency (SAQA).

Eligibility Criteria for Nelson Mandela Scholarship:

This highly competitive scholarship is awarded annually to top graduating students from across the continent who display excellent academic merit. To apply for this scholarship, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be an African citizen between 19 and 29 years.
  2. The scholarship is open to both male and female candidates.
  3. Students registered for postgraduate study (Honours and Masters’s degrees) are eligible to apply.
  4. An impressive academic record is required, such as a first degree with above-average grades (70% or an upper second).
  5. The foundation is looking for applicants with a record of leadership and service on their campus or in their community.
  6. Excellent academic background and an interest in service are required. Students must show academic promise and a love of learning. They must be hardworking, enthusiastic, and inquisitive.
  7. As long as you have completed your degree by January 2023, you will be eligible for the scholarship if you are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program or if you are enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  8. To be eligible for the Nelson Mandela scholarship program 2022, you will need to provide notification of your academic registration at the beginning of each year and an update on your studies by two weeks after the start of the second semester.
  9. The applicants should show that they have the potential for exhibiting the foundation’s ideals of reconciliation, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Steps of Application for Nelson Mandela Scholarship 2022:

To apply for the Nelson Mandela Scholarship, you will need to follow these simple steps.

  1. Applications for the Mandela Scholarship must be submitted through our online application platform.
  2. Access the platform, and fill out the online application form.
  3. Once there, you will be able to upload an essay, your transcript, and letters of recommendation by three people to submit your application.
  4. Recommendation letters must be uploaded by the writers directly before the deadline.
  5. Upload all the necessary documents mentioned in the instructions to submit your application successfully.

Nelson Mandela Scholarship Application deadline:

The Nelson Mandela Scholarships open every year from March to November. To apply for the Nelson Mandela Scholarships in 2022, you will need to submit your application from 22 March 2022 to 21 April 2022.
